When Art Attacks

From Peter Schjeldahl's latest review in The New Yorker, concerning the artistic atmosphere of the '60s:
Blatant narcissism was in the air, too, but it was typically inflected with self-abasement, particularly in stunts performed soon afterward by Vito Acconci (who bit himself anywhere he could and photographed the tooth marks) and Chris Burden (who had himself shot).
Well! All I can say is, an ear just won't cut it anymore.

Since It Seems To Need To Be Said Again

Bad Ideas

Here's one:

I'm of the complete opposite view.  Both should be permitted.  We'll have (pun oh so intended) fewer bums amongst the bushes of our golf courses, as well as better aim, for fear of striking one of them.

And there's other bad news tonight, but I think this is the real outrage.

Oh, I also don't know what country the picture is from, and suspect it's not from around here.  And that's something to be thankful for tonight.

The picture is not mine and is taken from the Facebook page of a friend of a friend.  And yes, I know that's not really a golf club.

HRC's True Colors: Green and More Green

HRC has an app for the iPhone showing gay-friendly businesses.  It's called - brace yourself - HRC's "Buying for Equality Guide."  The icon is a little shopping bag with the HRC logo on it.  Not an app for news, not an app for gay resources in your town - an app for shopping.  How HRC!  (In fairness, it's free, so I downloaded it.)

A Poem: "On Quitting Cigarettes Cold Turkey"

Patches?  Patches?
We don't need no stinking patches.
